Devastation Strikes East Darfur

In a act of sabotage, a gang set fire to the largest crude oil production well in Sudan’s East Darfur State over the weekend. Swift action managed to extinguish the flames in the field. The incident has sent shockwaves through the region, exacerbating an already dire situation.

JUBA MAY 8: In a heart-wrenching act of sabotage, a gang set fire to the largest crude oil production well in Sudan’s East Darfur State over the weekend, resulting in the complete destruction of the well. The incident has sent shockwaves through the region, exacerbating an already dire situation.

Major Hamdan Al-Ajib, the commander of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in East Darfur, revealed to Radio Tamazuj that the fire was intentionally ignited by a gang on Saturday. Swift action by our forces managed to extinguish the flames in the field, and one member of the gang has been apprehended. During interrogation, he confessed to the crime, and a manhunt is currently underway to capture the remaining suspects.

East Darfur State is one of the states of Sudan, and one of five comprising the Darfur region. It was created in January 2012 as a result of the ongoing peace process for the wider Darfur region. The state capital is Ed Daein. The state was formed from land that was part of the state of South Darfur.
