OMDURMAN OCTOBER 1: This is a travel report by an American who traveled to over 170 countries in the world. In this chapter he discovers Sufism. Sufism is a mystic body of religious practice. We leave it to Phil to present his own video:
“Travel to Sudan in 2022 and on Friday nights in Omdurman, across the Nile River from Khartoum City, to find the Sufi Muslim Dervish ceremony. Here devout Sufi Muslim Dervishes chant and spin to the rhythmic beat of drummers, while followers of Sheikh Hamed al-Nil repetitively chant “La Illaha Ilallah”, meaning “There is no God but Allah”.
I’ve never seen Muslims like this before… many of them had dreadlocks and looked like Rastafarians, like you would see in Jamaica. And the music… WOW, it felt like I was at a hippie drum circle… so cool!
This was a spiritual gathering unlike any I’ve seen in my travels to 175 countries around the world and I’m so happy to share with you the joy and energy that I encountered.
I loved the Sudanese people and hope that more people will visit this unexplored country. Don’t get my wrong, I REALLY enjoyed being the only person at the UNESCO World Heritage Pyramids of Meroe and Karima, but at the same time, I want others to experience the sights, sounds, food, people and general VIBE that is SUDAN.
Insha’Allah!”
