Clashes Intensify In Blue Nile State – Curfew Declared

Clashes continue in the state of Blue Nile between the Hausa and Birta ethnic groups. The death toll from tribal violence has reached 79, with 199 wounded. According to OCHA, about 14,000 people displaced from Ar Rusayris locality are sheltering in three schools in Ed Damazine town.

KHARTOUM JULY 19: Security forces fired tear gas as Sudanese protesters marched in the capital Khartoum on Sunday against the country’s military leadership, holding it responsible for an outbreak of violence in Blue Nile State.

Clashes continue in the state of Blue Nile between the Hausa and Birta ethnic groups. Thousands of protesters of the Hausa tribe set up barricades and attacked government buildings in several cities on Monday, July 18. The federal health ministry said on Tuesday, the death toll from tribal violence has reached 79, with 199 wounded.

The coup authorities have taken action. They have announced a curfew and sent The Masters of Chaos, Rapid Support Forces, to the area to restore calm.

According to OCHA, about 14,000 people displaced from Ar Rusayris locality are sheltering in three schools in Ed Damazine town, the Humanitarian Aid Commission (HAC) in Blue Nile State reported on 19 July.

There are reports of an additional 1,000 people displaced in Ar Rusayris, and 500 people in Geisan localities outside Ed Damazine town, pending verification the total number of displaced is likely to increase.

In addition, an estimated 1,800 people are reportedly displaced to Sennar State. In Kassala, an unverified number of people were reportedly killed on 18 July and a few injured during a protest in solidarity with people affected by the violence in Blue Nile.
