KHARTOUM May 25: A huge fire broke out in the main passenger port on the Red Sea in the Sudanese city of Suakin, which is located about 800 km east of the capital, Khartoum. The coup authorities did not issue any official statement regarding the fire.
A large number of shipments arriving from Arab and foreign ports were destroyed by the fire. The shipments were waiting for customs check.
We do not currently have any information on possible deaths.
There were fears that the fire would spread to the car clearance berth, where hundreds of vehicles are located, waiting to complete the clearance procedures as well.
Sudanese ports suffer from major problems due to the collapse of their infrastructure, lack of maintenance and lack of safety equipment.
