The 2019–2022 Sudanese protests are street protests in Sudan which began in mid-September 2019, during Sudan’s transition to democracy.
The protests began over issues such as the nomination of a new Chief Justice and Attorney General, the killing of civilians by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), the toxic effects of cyanide and mercury from gold mining in Northern state and South Kordofan, opposition to a state governor in el-Gadarif and to show trials of Sudanese Professionals Association (SPA) coordinators, and advocating the dismissal of previous-government officials in Red Sea, White Nile and South Darfur.
On 16 October, pro-military protesters held a protest in Khartoum demanding a military coup; they were allowed to reach the gates of the presidential palace, with a negligible police presence. The protesters called for Sovereignty Council chair Abdel Fattah al-Burhan to seize control and take over the country. There were many allegations that these protesters were paid by the military.
After the October–November 2021 Sudanese coup d’état, the Sudanese Professionals Association and the FFC called for mass civil disobedience and refusal to cooperate with the coup.
The coup forces have raped (men, women and children) and murdered unarmed protesters without being held accountable. And now the one who is ultimately responsible for these abuses is playing president and getting involved everywhere as if he understood something.
