Russia’s Ministry of Defence has said that 498 Russian soldiers have been killed in Ukraine and 1,597 more sustained wounds, in the first report of casualties by Moscow.
“Unfortunately, we have losses among our comrades who are participating in the operation,” Russian Ministry of Defense spokesperson Maj. Gen. Igor Konashenkov said in a briefing carried on state television.
“I want to emphasize once again that neither conscripts nor cadets of educational institutions of the Russian Ministry of Defense are participating in a special operation,” Konashenkov said. “The information spread by many Western and individual Russian media about the supposedly ‘innumerable’ losses of the Russian force is deliberate disinformation.”
Ukrainian official sources has said that the number of Russian troops killed is far higher. Moscow had previously admitted to losses but without giving any numbers.
In the video above, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation announces the number of dead and injured in its own forces. English subtitles are available.
