Darfur Crisis: At least 24 people have been killed over the weekend in Darfur. Adam Regal says the janjaweed carried out the massacre. The violence comes two weeks after the UN Security Council ended the joint UN-African Union peacekeeping force’s mandate in the Darfur region.
Tribal clashes between Arabs and black people killed at least 24 people on Sunday in Sudan’s western Darfur region. Also at least 35 others were wounded. Adam Regal, spokesman for the General Coordination for Refugees and Displaced in Darfur, stated.
The fighting grew out of a financial dispute late on Saturday between two individuals in the Krinding camp for displaced persons in West Darfur province, said Regal.
On Sunday, the commotion escalated. Arab militias known as janjaweed attacked the camp early Sunday. Torching and looting properties. Assaulted unarmed men, women and children.
Janjaweed Militia aka Popular Defence Forces is not as the names suggest any organized and effective state entity. They’re just a bunch of alcoholics and drugged illiterates. Probably also many of them are low intelligent and directly mentally handicapped.
In the nearby South Darfur province, tribal clashes over the past two months have claimed the lives of at least 45 people in the town of Tawila, according to the Sudan Doctors Committee.
