Israel formally declared war on Sunday. Daniel Hagari said the IDF “has never mobilized so many reservists so quickly — 300,000 reservists in 48 hours.” This is the largest mobilization since the 1973 Yom Kippur War. JERUSALEM OCTOBER 9: Israel formally declared war on Sunday, portending greater fighting ahead, and a possible ground assault into Gaza. As Israel hit more than 1,000 targets in Gaza and its tanks and drones guarded openings in the border fence to prevent more infiltrations, Palestinian militants continued firing barrages of rockets.
Daniel Hagari says breaches of the Gaza border barrier will be physically secured by tanks supported by combat helicopters and drones. Regarding the draft of reservists, Hagari said the IDF “has never mobilized so many reservists so quickly — 300,000 reservists in 48 hours.”
This is the largest mobilization since the 1973 Yom Kippur War when Israel called up 400,000 reservists.
The Yom Kippur War, also known as the Ramadan War, was an armed conflict fought from October 6 to 25, 1973, between Israel and a coalition of Arab states led by Egypt and Syria. The war began on October 6, 1973, when the Arab coalition jointly launched a surprise attack against Israel on the Jewish holy day of Yom Kippur.
Egypt has been in close contact with Israel and Hamas to try to prevent further escalation in fighting. Egypt had urged Israel to exercise restraint and Hamas to hold its captives in good condition to keep open the possibility of de-escalation soon.
