OSLO OCTOBER 6: Narges Mohammadi will be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2023 for her fight for the women of Iran, Norwegian Nobel Committee Chairman Berit Reiss-Andersen announced in Oslo.
– Her courageous fight has come with an enormous personal price, says Berit Reiss-Andersen, chairman of the Nobel Committee, at a press conference.
Narges Mohammadi has been arrested 13 times, convicted five times and has been in prison since 2016. There she will serve a 31-year sentence and 154 lashes, according to Iran’s regime.
She receives the Nobel Peace Prize with the justification “for her struggle to promote human rights and freedom for all”.
Narges Mohammadi, born in 1972 in Zanjan in the province of Zanjan, is an Iranian human rights activist of Kurdish origin.
